I have been writing since I was old enough to string together sentences, but the path that led to my professional writing career was a bit unconventional. I went to college for biochemistry. Throughout my schooling, I spent all my summers and any free hour I could scrounge between my studies to write Daughter of Lazarus. Once I graduated, I was successfully accepted to pharmacy school, where I spent a year trying desperately to ignore the obvious fact that I despised it.
One day, on my much-lamented morning commute, I reached into my purse for chapstick and pulled out a magazine clipping. It was a crumpled piece of paper that my mom saved for me with some cabin rental on the front of it. I don’t know why, but something urged me to flip it over. The only thing on the back was a small picture of a motivational speaker with a caption reading that she was a bestselling author of over seven books. It had me thinking: If she can do it, so can I.
The next day, I sat through my monotonous lectures and nearly ran out of the building. If there is one thing I’ve learned, it’s that life is short, and we shouldn’t waste a second of it doing something that we don’t love.
I quit that night, and never looked back.

Honestly, it’s hard to pinpoint. Everything from other books and movies, to personal experiences can give me inspiration for my next idea—stumbling across a peacock-patterned chair was the beginning of Eden Sharpkey! I was born a daydreamer, so as long as I have a spare moment of free time, my brain automatically starts to make things up.

As much as I love the beach, I would have to choose the mountains. There is just something about how small you feel in comparison to, say, the Rockies. It’s humbling.

I sew, I bake, I hike. I love to garden and get my hands dirty! I like pretty much anything outdoorsy. I also love cuddling and playing with my two precious dogs.

As much as I would like to be a Modgen Sprightly, I’m definitely more of an Annalise Larking. Sometimes I wish I could be a little more spontaneous and nonchalant!
